Hifiman RE272: Review - Page 16

With the Sony hybrids I have more bass than withstock tips.

I am now enjoying my RE-272 more than I am RE0. It is a true upgrade indeed.

Amp. wise - I am probably going for the Quickstep (upgraded 2StepDance)-> and then, the 272 will reach the sun ;)

Is the RE272 vented? Does it leak sound?

Do they leak as much as ibuds? Also, does it isolsate well enough for airplanes?

they are deeper inside the ear, (in ear monitors) compared to the ibuds, which are... ear-buds.

so they probably isolate more and leak less..

i don't have ibuds, and haven't been flying too long ;)

Thanks for the input. I'm looking for an IEM with almost zero sound leakage because I tend to listen to slighly high volume levels so I'm a bit worried.

Oh, and one more thing, does the RE272 require an amp, or does it just benefit from one? Will it still sound good without an amp?

an amp isn't required , as it is with say the re-262

there is some improvement , but even without it sounds terrific

Thanks, as long as it doesn't require one, thats good enough for me. As for the leakage, do you think that in a quiet room, someone else would hear my music if  I were listening to slightly loud volumes? Should I worry about it?

I don't think the 272 should have much leakage at all if you obtain a good seal/fit.
It's not going to leak like apple ear buds that's for sure!

i tried straight of my Galaxy3 (it has a nice wm8740 dac)

and then added a simple Fiio amp.

an amp. betters the sound, small differences, yet noticeable.

a Balanced amp. - even more )

If you're removing the filter, you cannot re-use it. In that case you can do whatever to remove it. I delicately removed mine with a curved staple lol. The replacements go on like stickers, easy!
