First off, this is a gift for my father, so they have got to be some simple out of the box speakers that he can hoot up to his laptop or TV or something. I know he won't have a proper soundcard and all that, but he was about to go to best buy and let some salesman sell him some crap, so I figured we can work on that after this.
I have a pair of AV-40s that I am pretty happy with, so I was looking them for him(I saw a pair in the Amazon marketplace for about $100), but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something standard I am overlooking(I really don't know too much about this kind of stuff). I got my pair off of Buy.com over a year ago for $80. I knew the landscape of the 2.0 scene then, but I haven't kept up on it in that time.

Edit: I don't live in the same area as he does, but I will be back in town for like a day rather soon. So if there is some way I can set him up something better for around the price, I'd like to know, but I have no experience with sound equipment, so I would need some hand holding, i.e. I need to know exactly what to buy.
