Earthquake in Virginia rattles New York. - Page 2

Felt it here near Pittsburgh PA, I had to hold onto my big screen tv to keep it from falling. I just moved back from California to PA and I'm still going through earthquakes haha.

My mother-in-law was on the freeway at the time this mess was hitting in Northern Virginia - she claims she didn't hear or feel a thing.  I talked to a lady in my office building that was driving back to the office at the time of the 'quake - she said her car was shaking tremendously - as if she had a major flat tire.  I'm not sure how much longer we should be letting my 81 y.o. mother-in-law drive if she's not aware of a 5.9 'quake while she's in her car.  Then again, it was a Lexus - so, the car is pretty tight when it comes to the suspension and the ability to block out noise ... but, still.

I was in Bethesda MD and on the 3rd floor I felt. The thing that got me weirded out is in my first 30 years of life I never felt an earthquake and in the last 13 months I've felt 2, both in the DC area (I lived 10 miles from the 3.8 that hit Germantown MD last year in June)

To all of you guys from quake prone areas here on the east coast America we're not used to it and our building aren't designed for it, which causes us to not react the same as the more prepared people. (this isn't toward anybody here but a general statement)

Yes, my stove and my chair were shaken. I thought it was the terribly built buildings that were finally coming down. I mean, these buildings are so poorly built, they're eventually going to crumble anyway.

As for that Lexus, seeing as it is a Japanese Car, you would think they designed the suspension so that the typical 'quake doesn't affect the passengers. I mean, Japan is pretty prone to 'quakes bigsmile_face.gif

Last evening, at 8:05 p.m., there was a 4.2 aftershock that hit the area of Stafford County - which is about 40 miles south of Washington, DC.  I didn't seem to feel the after-effects of this one, though.  I think I was eating dinner at the time.

A M4.5 'quake was reported 30 miles east of Charlottesville at 1:07 a.m. (EST).  Something woke me up a short time after that.
