Edifier S550 bass

I recently saw a movie and i noticed some of the sound effects were missing, but the subwoofer's radiators (i think?) were vibrating. In pretty much any movie i've seen, sound effects have been missing, which is a shame. The subwoofer is from what i can tell a mix between a normal subwoofer and a passive. It has got these passive radiators on the side, but the speaker does have a magnet on it (passive subwoofers don't have that?). Any sound below 40hz is pretty much non existent and can only felt on the side thingys. Any reason or possibly a fix for this? My cheap old Pioneer system right next to it is able to go down to about 20 - 30 hz.

BTW i'm using an Asus Xonar D2X

The tuning of the passive radiator enclosure for the sub only allows the sub to go down to 40hz before it rolls off, I own the edifier s730 which has the same sub I solved the problem by adding other sub to it, it's now a 2.2system.

Why would they advertise the frequency range from 20hz - 20khz if they have tuned it not to go that low? Sounds dump to me. How did you add another sub? Connecting it to an external dac?

It will go down to 20hz but at something like - 6db, it just says 20hz-20khz it doesn't say at what levels it plays these frequences, i got a sub with a rca pass-thru, rca in and out so i connected to the rca outs to the rca in's on the back of the s730 for my xbox360 i use the fiio d3 to convert digital to analog.

Meh, that sucks. Is it possible to just use an equalizer to turn up the low frequencies to a noticeable level?
