RIP Lee Weiland (Cryoparts and Locus-Design) - Page 2

Lee Weiland of Cryoparts passed away this week, family needs help

Lee Weiland of Cryoparts a member of our MOT community and a great supporter of Head-fi and past CanJam efforts passed away this week leaving his wife behind. Lee was a great presence and a heck of a lot of fun at gatherings and you couldn't help catching his enthusiasm for the audio gear he brought over to listen too.

I'll miss him when I go to Denver this year and want to pass along a link that Marjorie from RMAF has set up to assist Lee's wife, Robin, after his passing. Robin has cancer and really could use the audio communities support. So if you can help out that would be great even if it is just to pass along your condolences but a donation would really mean a lot.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully the link as Marjorie of RMAF and Josh of Sonic Weld captured Lee's spirit really well.

Best wishes

JP

I honestly hope one of his friends could take over his business to help support his family. I don't know if that's a practical idea, however.

I was reading the Eulogy that Josh Heiner wrote on http://www.locus-design.com/index.php/peacebrigoodbye-leei and it really touched me.  I read how he talked about Lee signing off on many of his emails with "peace" and I went back to look at mine, and he was right and I hadn't noticed before.  But it was the signature on all but one email that he sent me over the past year and a half.

His kindness, consideration and thoughtfulness were also there in his emails, and his sense of humor.  He made people feel special, like they had a real connection to him, even if he hardly knew them.  I wanted to share an email that examplefies that:

Quote:

Larry,

I just finished up your cable, I will let it run in overnight and get it in the mail to you tomorrow.

FYI--I made you a special version.  When I had the fancy/expensive y-splitters made for the Oracle's I had a few made that have Hyperion engraved in them instead of Oracle.  I used these for my own personal cables, or cables of close friends, close business associates, etc., instead of the standard wood splitter.  In any event, I used one of the aluminum y-splits on your cable instead of the standard wood one as you seem to be such a nice guy.  So enjoy the "Hyperion +", there are very few out there like yours.

Peace,

Lee

I felt honored that he considered me close enough to do something special for me like that.  And we joked about it too.

Oh, Skynet is already built into the splitter.  Just be careful when it becomes self aware!  ;-)

Lee

Anyway, I would hope that someday people will think of me when I'm gone as highly as people thought of Lee, but I don't think I'm doing nearly as good of a job setting the standard as he did.  Ever since my father-in-law passed away 4 weeks ago I've been pretty emotional, and the passing of Lee has affected me greatly as well.  When we finally met at RMAF last year it was a pleasure, and at least I have that to buoy my spirits, because to have not met Lee while he was still alive would have made me even sadder right now.

Very well-written and moving eulogy by Josh.  I have just donated thru the RMAF site and hope a lot of people will do the same.  Thanks for the links, Larry and JP.

I have so many stories to share. He will be missed. I guess thats all I have to say right now.

As Lee would say:

"Peace"

Very much so.  I think about him all the time since I was used to talking to him through e-mail almost daily.

A great, great shame. We corresponded a lot over the course of several years (we imported his cables into the UK), and he was genuinely one of the good guys.

We never met, but his warmth, large-heartedness, and intelligence, was always very evident from his emails and on the phone. We were always passionate advocates of his cables, too, in the face of indifference or outright hostility. His absence impoverishes the industry.

For everyone who still uses one of Lee's cables, know that a little bit of him will always live on in your music. He'd like that.
