xonar essence st and 50ohm headphones

Thread Starter

hello all,

this is my first post here on head-fi, so sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place.

like the title says, i own a xonar essence st card.

the device uses the TI PCM1792A DAC, followed by 2 JRC 2114D's (these opamps units are used as a differential input Current to Voltage section - according to review in guru3d), then relays, then the final buffer opamp LM4562NA for RCA output, and the TI6120A2 for the headphone output. the relays change between the two final buffers with respect to speaker/headphone mode in control panel.

i've been using my sennheiser hd555 headphones in headphone mode, but recently i connected them to the RCA out using the provided cable, and i started liking the new sound more and more.

i read the datasheet for the LM4562NA, and the load impedance always mentioned was 600ohm.

this brings me to what i want to ask. is it ok for me to use my 50ohm headset on this output? can i damage the chip?

the line outs(RCA's) are not amplified, youll be fine.

Better thread to ask this question.

You can all ways replace the two 2114Ds with two LME49860, or even get a pair of LME49990s.
