Thread Starter

hi guys, i have been reading a lot in this forum but i havent found an exact answer to my problem, with wich i hope you maybe be able to help, im a "new" in the headphone and hi-fi scene, i have some ad700 + x fi elite pro for a while, but even after equalizing i find something missing.

i need headphones mainly for watching movies and gaming, the ad700 + elite pro combo sounds spectacular, but i cant help to think there is something "missing" in the sound, perhaps its the lack of bass , i honestly dont know, the headphones sound good in cmss 3D but im think im looking for an upgrade, i have about 400-500 dollars, what would u advice me to upgrade to? (focus on watching movies)

thx a lot!

AKG K601 or K701/702 for big sound-stage.

Assuming the PC is your source, use the

Xi-Fi and hook it up via RCA cables to a

headphone amplifier like a Fiio E9 or

any other full sized desktop amp that

you can get 2nd hand like eg,

Schiit Asgard or Little Dot 1+.

Nice way to spend $400.

AKG's have a nice soundstage but still lack on bass. Maybe some Beyer's?

is the amp really worth the difference? wouldnt it be better to buy some new headphones?

I'm guessing your CL X-Fi elite Pro does not come with a dedicated headphone amplifier.

With your budget, you can get a CL Titanium HD (great price at amazon), which will improve the sound (with dedicated headphone amp) of your AD700 or any future headphones you get.

The Titanium HD is limited to 2.1 analog out for speakers, but will do 5.1 speaker with digital output

Or save a few dollars and get the Asus Xonar DG, has a decent headphone amp. and has 5.1 analog speaker output.

But you lose native EAX 5.0, the Xonar DG "emulates" EAX 5.1.

And the Xonar DG comes with Dolby Digital 5.1  for movies and 5.1 Dolby Headphone gaming.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm cans should work well with the Titanium HD.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80-Ohms will work with just about any sound card.

i really like my sound card and have no intention of changing that to be honest, is a headphone upgrade worth it though? whats the difference between the ad700 and higher end headphones for watching movies?

how do those headphones relate to the ad700 though? what would make me want to change? i dont know much about the differences to be honest i just know that they sound good :P (thx for all the replies so far btw!)

How intensely did you EQ? Did you use a band EQ or a parametric one?

wasnt a great eq to be honest, just used the x-fi EQ, i used some settings i saw on the forum to make it sound better, the lack of bass might be the problem (even after boosting the bass), or maybe its just a case of upgraditis, i just dont know if its worth it

Heya,

They're all immensely better, in every way, save for perhaps style/comfort as that's so crazy subjective it's hard to truly measure, to the AD700's. Each one will make you think, "Well shibity, that's what was missing?".

Very best,

If you want something with lots of bass, Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80-Ohm, used ones sometimes go for a good price

Heya,

If you're willing to spend $500, per your original post, you should be willing to simply go for the top and get the one that is $545. It's the PRO 900 but open air, so PRO 2900 is simply awesome. Get something less, hear this thing one day, kick yourself. That simple.

Very best,
