I want a modern MiniDisc replacement unit (that is to say, real remote clipped on to my shirt, excellent mic input, excellent on-unit editing of sound files, excellent sound).

Bring back real Walkmans with a real audio focus and removable storage & batteries.

Forget Android. Forget touchscreens.

You need a time machine.

Well, i think that Nokia is here for you. My N78 has no touchscreen, is delivered with a wired remote control, has real volume up / down buttons on it and doesn't have Android ;)

You might also check the Sony mix reviewed here : http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Sony-Ericsson-Mix-Walkman-Review_id2816

And keep in mind that you can always buy the Nokia WH-701 kit which adds the wired control to almost any Nokia on the market (you can check the compatibility on Nokia website); and gsmarena does a RMAA for each of the tested phones so you can also check if it fits your needs.

Hope it helps ;)

Anyone got their hands on this? Looking to buy a new phone that can act as my source!

I thought the  x10 mini Pro was ok if not quite up to my A818. But perhaps the new Experia Mini would be better.

So apparently the Samsung Galaxy S had a Wolfson DAC and the Galaxy S II changed to a Yamaha DAC, of unknown model numbers...

Also lol at comment:

"I think it depends more on the format of the music rather than the device. I always liked the sound of AAC which is why I probably held onto my ipod for so long. Now I just use high bitrate MP3s on my Evo which I think sound really well."

Does anyone have this phone? How is the sound quality compared to other android phones?

Is the SQ as good as Ipod Touch or J3?

I am about to buy it and report on comparisons to iPod 5.5gen (best iPod to me) and HM-602.

I just got one of these, no comment on SQ yet as not enough test time. I wil report back soon. Anyone know any good free music playet apps for android? Thanks. Good phone so far.
Ok, just been comparing it to my 7G ipod classic using mp3's through my superlux hd668b.
The ipod sound slightly crisper with better detail, more clinical. The SE sounds slightly smoothed over, but is not a bad source at all, its not far behind the ipod, im impressed. I also hear it supports USB OTG which in theory means you can connect it to an external DAC.
Overall I will still be using my classic for storage reasons, but if I dont want to lug my normal rig around this live walkman is perfect.

I still need to find a good fre music player, preferably that supports flac, for my live walkman.

android support flac natively..no?

the best music app with the best SQ i tested is neutron but the UI is horrid

sadly all the good apps we need to pay for it but worth pay 5bucks for the neutron for their SQ

I have the SE Mini the new version. I Haven't heard the Live. The mini though sounds decent. Not quite on par with a Sony Walkman, but decent enough though. I'm quite happy with it for a cheap phone.

Yes its a cheap phone but the headpone out is pretty decent.

The problem I have is that I cant buy apps as I dont have a credit card. But I found an app now, supports flac and alac and more. Eq and treble + bass booster. Its called instinctiv. Ui is pretty good too. Now the sq is muh better, shame I cant make the hardware W button open this music player instead of stock
post #45 of 46

Well I meant the Mini was cheap but I guess thats true of the Live too. Must check out that instinctiv. Thanks for the info!
