"Vintage" gear recently inherited from grandfather - any good?

Thread Starter

I recently inherited three vintage receivers and an equalizer from my late grandfather.

I am wondering if any of these (minus the equalizer) would provide a decent enough amount of juice to power "newer" headphones from big manufacturers that are popular around head fi. And actually sound good. The equipment is:

Sony Legato Linear STR VX4 reciever

Calibre 215 reciever

Numark EQ2310 Equalizer

Thanks.

My guess is probably not. I know the Sony if from the 1990's and is from an era of cheap plastic and just getting it out there. I would love to see pictures of that Calibre, since i cant find alot on it except that it was build in the late 1970's and go for around $30-40.

They should be more than enough to drive any headphones.  Just because it was made in the 80 or 90s doesn't mean they're crap and can't drive anything.  They should be a good start if you ever want to expand into better receivers.

I have no idea, but give them a try. They might work great. Don't buy gear if you don't have to; use what you have.

If they do work, please let us know. A lot of people are looking for used/inexpensive gear. It could help others get a good deal.
