With VST Adapter and the free version of Electri-Q. Foobar's default EQ isn't anything special.

foobar2000 without bothering with anything else.

For the best sound though you really should get some kind of soundcard. Onboard is usually pretty garbage.

He's using the DAC in his amp.

Ah, missed that. My mistake.

you gotta use WASAPI output with foobar.  thats the key.

What is the benefit of WASAPI Playback, aside from the fact it mutes all other sounds?

i dont know the technicalities, but it essentially bypasses much of the computer's hardware and sends the audio signal direct to the output, this cleaning up the signal path.

i've tried lots of audio player comparing after people say one sounds better than another and have never had much luck telling a difference, but as far as wasapi vs. other methods of output within foobar.. wasapi clearly sounds better IMHO.

right now i also using wasapi + foobar2000 too.

its bit of annoying that foobar is very slow and its also uncomfortable that everything else is muted. but i know thats the point in the whole story.

that way foobar sounds better than the rest.

i have a really fast PC: 6core 8GB ram SSD...

winamp is way faster. - good old pc solutions

and foobar takes too much space on my screen.

is there a way to give a better and smaller skin to foobar 2000 ?

its really hard to install skin. i could not find one which was functioning.

the other is ASIO. which is better ?

how to configure external EQ software in foobar ? what is Electri-Q:. - posihfopit edition  ??

i found this 31band Graphic EQ - i like it very much:

http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_dsp_xgeq

and easy to install

thanks for help

I'm using Debian.  Foobar 2000 runs great under wine - and so far all the VST plugins have worked well with it - including dolby hph.  Worth checking - if you just want to play around for a while.  I either use that or Amarok.

not sure why foobar is "slow"  i've never found it be slow at all
