DAC for Apex Peak / Volcano amp and LCD-2 headphones?

Can anyone recommend a good DAC for under $2000 to go with the Apex Peak / Volcano amp and LCD-2 headphones I've ordered? I have SPDIF out on my pc so usb ports aren't that important unless they are better than SPDIF connections. I'm after a DAC I can keep for years to come and not have to upgrade in a hurry. I was set on the Audio GD Reference 7 but it's not very often used ones are up for sale.

If I had this money I would definitely buy Casea Cepheus mk2 Synchro + Apex Peak/Liquid Fire. If DAC is great it will sure work excelent with highend amps. Unfortunately these amps are to much expensive fo me at this moment.

Many people will recomend you probably W4S DAC2. Many sources, always hard to decide without hearing. Good luck.

It would be interesting to see the P/V paired with the Anedio D-1.

So far I've been recommended the W4S DAC2, Audio GD Reference 7.1, PerfectWave DAC, Lavry DA11 and Anedio D1. Can anyone tell me which of these would sound the best with my setup. I want the sound to be neutral and the music to sound like it should. I will be using my SPDIF coax out from my PC.

Add the Audio-gd NFB-7 to your list.

I have had one for a couple of weeks and I am very impressed and thats coming from, and using as a transport, a $2000 CD player.

I would recommend you try the Benchmark Dac 1 and W4S Dac 2. If you dont mind waiting till next year, the Schiit Statement Dac should be great too.

I would personally steer away from neutral and find something warmer.
The peak needs the extra lift in the lower frequencies.

Perhaps a tube dac would be good for the op then.

It's so hard deciding on a DAC that I've never heard before. I've got my Apex Peak still sitting in it's box and have only heard my Audeze LCD-2 through my Sony receiver. It doesn't have RCA out for sound so I'm patiently waiting for a DAC.

I did decide to wait for the Audio-GD Reference 7.1, which should be ready this month, but now I'm re-thinking. I could get the Perfectwave DAC but it would be from MSS HIFI and they would be changing the power from 120V to 240V which wouldn't seem like a problem. I've contacted a few people on ebay who have bought this DAC them and they seem happy.

The perfect wave is great, very neutral and detailed plus great build

You might want to contact purrin as he had both the P/V and the PWD, and not wanting to put words in his mouth, but I think he found the latter to be too revealing for the Apex amp.
