I am looking for a speaker setup but I am on a budget of $125. I am looking for the best quality and bass I can find. I listen to music, game and watch movies. I also have a X-fi Xtrememusic sound card. I am currently eyeing the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and M-Audio AV40. I am open to all suggestions.

Are you willing to go vintage? Look on craigslist for a serviced receiver or intergrated amp for $50-80 and than get some vintage speakers for $50.
Agreed - where u from cos we can help pick out decent bargains floating around hehe

Central New Jersey. I am willing to go vintage but it really depends on the looks, I like my desk to look quite appealing.

Well, here is a great little system for you. First of all their are two different amps i'll be showing you, one's an intergrated amp, and the other is a receiver. The receiver had an AM/FM tuner so you can listen to the radio, the intergrated does not, just strictly music. Alot of people like Marantz, this is a smaller unit, but it'll do the job. Same thing with Scott, they made some good gear in the day. And this is the Teac intergrated amp. And for speakers, this is a great speaker. These are very well known speakers, and personally, id get them. This also looks like a good speaker, worth more than their selling them for IMHO. Good luck, and make sure everything works, and has no problems.

Those are the two speakers systems I would have picked.
Go for the Klipsch Promedia 2.1, I think they are being sold at a close out price (under value) to make room for the replacement model.
I think Bestbuy has the best price currently.
Even cheaper used ones on eBay
Even some older used klipsch 5.1 speakers system on eBay.

DSSOOTB suck. Klipsch OOTB arn't very good unless you have money to get a nice Marantz and some Heresy's which you dont as you say.

It's fine i made it up
,
DSSOOTB- Desktop Speaker Systems Out Of The Box
OOTB- Out Of The Box
bump on this. Not to hijack this thread or anything, but I'm on a similar budget and I live in NYC. My main use will be for music - say 90% of the time, with 10% movies. I have a Creative Audigy2 soundcard.
Mostly listen to electronic music, so I definitely need some bass, but I don't need/want earth-shattering bass - I have to be kind to my apartment neighbors. Any suggestions?

I'm still pushing the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, I just bought a used one off eBay for $90, that's $35 under Fadedmemories budget.
Nice small desktop speakers (that are two-way), separate sub-woofer.
I am very happy with my klipsch 2.1 system. I did have this subwoofer pushed to its limits at a party once and trust me it does have its limits. It cannot match the volume of the satellite speakers. I had to turn the bass knob all the way down to turn up the satellites and even then it reached a point when the sub was noticeably struggling and began to sound rough. Under normal listening conditions and at somewhat high volume the system is great. Lots of rumbly for movies and plenty of punch for music. I highly recommend them. Before I purchased these I had a 5.1 system from logitech that failed the same week I purchased it. Sound was terrible on it and bass was weak. The Klipsch's are much clearer and more powerful and feel better made. Then again the sound on the logitech could have been flawed due to the fact that I got a obviously received a defective product however the speakers just failed suddenly and there was no indication that they were about to fail. Either way the sub was smaller and weaker than the Klipsch. I have no idea how they compare to the M-audio but they blow those logitechs out of the water without breaking a sweat.
