I agree with the above post^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Ya that one right above!

This hobby may have more enjoyment with the folks that are spending less money trying to get a world class system together but just getting the headphone version of the latest 1080p plasma TV, enjoying it everyday and never looking back.

The hair splitting level of diminishing returns is just that, diminishing returns. Classical music lovers may need that level of perfect sonic clarity but any rock lover worth his six-pack of bud maybe really doesn't care. I like my headphone rigs like the ladies in my life, fun, warm and uh..... fun and warm. They don't have to be exactly perfect to be enjoyed!

I really liked the comparison to cars here. On one hand a car is a huge expense where if you make an uninformed purchase you could be in trouble. People who are less mechanical will buy new cars with a good reputation. Folks who like to work on cars may get something that is fun to work on. The thing is cars in some ways ARE more simple. At least I feel that automotive science is very ahead now in contrast to where we were in 1950. This is the industry I have spent my life working in. You really do not see as many cars dead on the road as we used to in the  1970s. Car are made 10X better now. The technology has reached an amazing level.

Audio is more refined in the aspect of reproducing music. There are sound colors and tones reproduced with a needle on a vinyl record which just sound better with a choice phono pre amp. All the numbers and quantification in the world will not be able to tell us if they match together.

You can order wine by reading a scale of sweetness, body, tartness and comparison to other wines but only the taste will tell if it will be your favorite. That is the level we are at here with audio.
