Fostex HP-P1 vs Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo?

Googleli, could you please check the synergy of the CLAS/Amps vs Hp-P1 with the T5p. I now use a CLAS/Arrow combo but I'm very curious on how the fostex performs. Thanks

I hope you have a pair of IEM's to review!!! I'm so ready for this hp-p1 rig. My Fiio E7 is down due to faulty interconnect! I was just testing the water with E7 and can't believe how much better my IE8's sound! If I can just get that sound (DAC) from my computer on my iphone / ipod. I won't even listen now without E7 it sounds broken to me, flat, noisy and just wrong.

Ain't the DAC section on the E7 purely meant for computers?

Anyways HP-P1 because it does what its built for, truly portable yet quality music on the go. I mean look at the hamburger of the Algorhythm Solo. Won't use it with difficult to drive stuff ever.

The following tests will be performed:

(1) iPhone 4 -> CLAS -> Stepdance -> LCD2
(2) iPhone 4 -> CLAS -> SR71A -> LCD2
(3) iPhone 4 -> Fostex HP-P1 -> Stepdance -> LCD2
(4) iPhone 4 -> Fostex HP-P1 -> SR71A -> LCD2
(5) iPhone 4 -> Fostex HP-P1 (using its internal amp) -> LCD2

"Later today or tomorrow I will finally be able to perform the Fostex->SR71A and the Fostex->Stepdance shootout"

Googlegi, did you have a chance to test the Fostex internal amp against the Stepdance and SR71A?

Yes - and that's no. 5 in the list of tests. Not impressed - doesn't drive the LCD2 as good as the Stepdance or SR71A, at both mid and high settings. It drives the LCD2 loud enough but not quite there.

The best for LCD2 Rev 1 so far, to me, is no. four. I am number four. Sorry I mean that combination four is the best. But I still can't decide between the SR71A and the Stepdance. But the following two points are clear to me:

(1) CLAS is cleaner. Fostex sounds a bit more analog (both using lineout to amp). CLAS' soundstage is a bit confined compared to Fostex. But CLAS has the cleaner sound. The HP-P1's mid-range graininess still doesn't go away completely after burn in, but overall it seems the Fostex sounds more natural. I still haven't tried Filter 2 of the Fostex extensively, so the above is solely based on Filter 1 setting.

(2) Fostex's internal amp is not as good as the better portable amps (Meier Stepdance / SR71A in my case), as far as the LCD2 is concerned.

Once I have done further tests to confirm more results on the LCD2, I will move on to my T5p and custom IEMs.

Just pulled the trigger on the CLAS.  Currently using Red wine GEN 4 i mod > Headroom portable dest top > ed 8's

The gen 4 Imod uses the headphone out as it's line out (no cap cables needed with that iteration)

Will the Gen 4 work with the CLAS or should I factor in another Pod to my purchase???

I also have a gen 5 MSB modded Ipod.  MSB says it will not work.

Also

I see a lot of referencing to the LCD-2's.  Is this just for reference or do people actually use these phones as portables

Thanks in advance!

Any plan to compare HRT iStreamer (powered or not by Energizer XP8000) against CLAS / Fostex HP-P1?

Sorry folks, just got my SR71B and I am A/B-ing with the SR71A via the HP-P1. I am still testing it exclusively with the LCD2 to find out the best possible rig for the Rev 1. I will give a listen to my custom IEMs as well as the T5p when I have time - but suffice to say that for the LCD2, I like the Fostex (DAC section only) a bit more. I will probably just  test the CLAS and Fostex with the SR71A and SR71B (I will have to order an IEM cable for the SR71B), because my Stepdance has not been modded and is too loud for the ES5. I prefer to have these combinations fully tested rather than coming to haste conclusions, so thanks for your patience.

I did have a brief test of the Fostex HP-P1 -> SR71B with the iBuds though - it is used to burn in the SR71B 24X7 in fear of damaging any of the more expensive IEMs / headphones.
