To answer the oringal question, studio/PA subs have rca/xlr/trs pass thrus which means you can pass the signal straight thru the sub and out to a power-amp, this is the config i use , hifi/ home cinema subs normally just have a line in no pass thru you need a 2/6/8 channel receiver with a sub out jack.

 

Amps are solid state eletronics in reality theres very very little difference in sound between them despite what most people here will tell you, certains amps may pair well with certain speakers but thats about it in terms of there sound quality.

thanks for the explanations.  Can you tell me how much those AMPs cost?

 

Also someone is offering a Marantz SR 6000 receiver for $90.  is that a good deal?
