So I recently moved into a new place and need a proper headphone setup again. My old Klipsch 2.1 speakers finally broke on me, so I will most likely be buying a decent pair of monitors that have a woofer/tweeter/midrange in each. These will need to be connected to some sort of receiver I would assume. So I would need some sort of dedicated source that would have a good headphone out and would be able to hook up to a pair of small studio monitors.
I am planning on purchasing a pair of DT990s (250ohm) and probably an older pair of DT770s as well. I found a great deal on a fiio e9i, but Im not really sure if I would be able to run macbook -> fiio e9i -> DT990/DT770. I'd rather not spend the extra money on a DAC as well at this point. Would I be able to simply run a min-to-mini cable from my optical or headphone output on the macbook to the line out on the back of the fiio then plug the dt990s to the amp? Would I be sacrificing sound quality?
Considering I want to hook up studio monitors as well, would it be a better idea to simply buy a stand alone receiver for all of my needs? I noticed that on the Fiio e9i, there are two stereo RCA fixed level outputs....if I just have a pair of studio monitors that have RCA connectors would I be able to plug those into the back of the e9i to play music off of my iphone/macbook? So would it be possible for macbook/iphone -> Fiio e9i -> (2) studio monitor speakers ?
Sorry if this is kind of confusing but I am kind of confused myself. Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks
