Female jacks for dual-entry K702's?

I'm looking to convert my K702s to dual-entry. I've reviewed a boatload of threads on this and still feel that http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/422333/recabling-the-k702 is the best help I've found thus far. I'd like to do detachable cables though, so I need to fit female jacks on each channel.

I'd therefore appreciate suggestions on what would make the best choice in such jacks, and why do you feel this way? Just plain 3.5 mm (easy to work with the plugs when making cables), or something with a more secure locking mechanism?

The k702 uses a stock mini-xlr jacks, I'd stick to that. Much more secure compared to a 3.5mm jack and that way you won't have mismatched plugs unless you plan on converting the stock mini-xlr to 3.5mm as well.

Thanks Brendan. I suspected as much (regarding secure fit). They also seem to be quite small (in terms of depth) which is nice going into the headphone. My alternative would have been to fit one 3.5 mm per channel, so having two mismatched jacks was never an option that I considered. Getting a secure fit is more important to me though.

I'll see if I can manufacture a similar mount on the right channel as what is already present on the left side. That way, all I'd have to do with the left channel would be to get rid of the wiring from the left to right channel.

Why not just use another 3-pin xlr jack like on the left cup.  You might be able to just replace the right cover with another left cover.  Looking at this:http://www.akg.com/mediendatenbank2/psfile/datei/4/k70248b2a8664eaf0.pdf it looks like you can order replacement parts directly from AKG.  In this case, you would order part numbers 2458M97010 (Left Cover) and 2458Z71010 (Left Ring) to replace the right side parts.  I don't know if this will work because I don't have a pair sitting in front of me, but it's something you could look into.

Hmm... good thinking.

It would be a mirror image if I ordered an extra left side however, meaning the jack would come out behind the center rather than in front of the center point. I have to see if the cables are too stiff to do that comfortably before considering that option, plus check if the mounting holes would end up in the same places. Thanks for thinking outside the box, though. I hadn't even thought of this alternative myself.
