Auzentech--No Bass/LFE to Headphones?

I finally got my hands on an Auzentech Prelude, and it sounds awesome through my 5.1 speaker setup. But with headphones it is a different story ... I just don't get any bass. I have it set to CMSS-3D which should downmix the 5.1 signal for my headphones but there is no .1 in the mix that I can hear ... Tried turning off CMSS-3D and it didn't make any difference--still no bass.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions on things I could try?

I have a Prelude, but it is not installed at the current time.  I don't recall a problem with bass.  The Prelude that I have does not include a headphone amp.  Are you driving headphones from the Prelude's line output?

Some applications, such as PowerDVD or foobar plugins, have settings to prevent bass from going to all outputs.  You might want to check for that.

Thanks for responding, Lavacat!

No, I'm not driving my headphones from the Prelude's line out. The Prelude is hooked up to my full-sized Denon AVR-1400 receiver through the card's 5.1 analog outputs, and I have my headphones connected to the headphone out jack on the Denon. Are you suggesting I try listening to it through the line out? I'll give that a shot, but I can't really keep it hooked up that way because then I'll lose my 5.1 speaker setup (the headphone line out on the Prelude is the same as the front left/front right speaker line out...)

Tried connecting my phones directly to the soundcard, bypassing my receiver. Bass improved somewhat (and positioning a whole lot) on some games, but not on others. And the sound took on a kind of thin, metallic edge that I did not like ...

Forgot to mention that I'm not using PowerDVD or any other third party software--just my soundcard's drivers and settings ...

In this case, it sounds like you'd have to do some tweaking with the AVR-1400's bass management system (LFE isn't supposed to be strictly a subwoofer channel from what I've read)...except receivers like that probably have the headphone output as an afterthought more than anything since they're meant to drive surround speakers.

I don't know of any solutions, especially since it's a receiver I don't have, but it may be worth reading through the manual for anything related to its headphone output.

No I was not suggesting listening from line out, just wondering how you had the system connected.  From the information it seems that the receiver may not be sending subwoofer information to the headphone outputs.

Just for fun, if Windows 7, go to control panel/sound/configure/speaker setup and change configuration to "stereo" to see if that makes any difference with the bass in the headphones.
