HQ materials to make the best DIY LOD possible

Thread Starter

As I can see a DIY LOD  needs a cable,dock connector ,3.5mm jack,solder

I was searching the net for the best pieces that will make the best DIY possible what I have reached till now:

jack: Via blue T6s PHONO PLUGS STEREO 3.5 MM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solder:

1)Mundorf

2)Cardas Quad Eutectic

3)Kester

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm still not sure about the dock connector & cable & heat shrink

So please share your experience.

connectors and solder are not super critical, they just have to be of good quality. SwitchCraft plugs and Cardas solder are plenty good enough.

The wire materials, on the other hand, can impact the sound quite a bit. Especially if the cable is longer than 3".

if you want to go really high end i suggest you check out this page. silver wire is probably your best bet. and since the cable on an lod is short it shouldnt cost too much. you might even have enough left over to make more than one! if you want to splurge you could even get some mundorf silver/gold wire.

as audiocats said connectors are pretty standard and solder wont make a huge difference (although you could get some mundorf silver/gold solderbiggrin.gif), and plugs usually all sound the same. i prefer the viablue plugs but thats all personal preference.

With no budget? Crystal piccolino cable. Kidding.. get silver cables.

IMO, connectors doesn't really make much difference in the sound quality. You're better off getting quality connectors which can last long. And you just need a normal heatshrink.

There is no need to go "really high end". The portable source might be "surprisingly" good but still not "high end" good.
