Extension cable question

Thread Starter

So, i just a new pair of SR60i's, but i'm a humble guy who just started at this whole audiophile thing, and i listen to music on my computer, i don't have a dac or anything.

My question is:

In order to connect my cans to the computer, i have to use one of those extension cables, the cheap ones (i payed like 3 bucks). I should make an extra ergonomical effort and try to plug the SR60i direct into the headphone jack of my motherboard?

Is possible that i'm losing a huge amount of sound quality because of this cheap extension cable?

Thanks.

Huge? Highly unlikely.
Just try, connect directly, connect using the extension cable, compare.
Unless something is horribly wrong with the extension cable, you won’t hear the difference

I don't know where the limit for how much you have to pay to get great stuff but I paid about 7 EUR (well in US it would probably cost like $5 as things are cheaper there) for a 2.5 m extension cable and it even improved the sound quality, the soundstage got noticably wider. LOL

It's possible, but like Roseval said it's not likely. A cable has to be of very low quality before it impedes sound quality like that.

Physically impossible. Even ignoring the whole cable debate, adding more cable can only ever reduce fidelity. Cables are passive, they only transmit information. They don't improve it in any way, only degrade it. The more cable, the more degradation. Theoretically. In real world performance, it has to be a really crappy cable to do anything audible.

I only want to warn the OP of that, not open up a can of cable discussion. So if you want to discuss, PM me.
