Another DAC question

I had my mind set on buying a Rega DAC. Always liked their CD players.

 

But since I'm using the DAC with a laptop, I've decided I'm better off with getting a new Mac plus a cheaper DAC.

 

Of course the first one to come to mind is the Apogee Duet, especially since it now costs around $300 used since the Duet II came out.

 

So my question is, is there a huge difference in performance between the Duet and more serious DACs, such as the Benchmark, StageDAC and Rega DAC?

 

I used to own an Opera and loved its DAC!

Never heard of them, but they use Wolfson DACs, which are highly praised around here. It doesn't seem to have a powerful amp though, which is pretty important depending on your headphones.
