I was also surprised that hong kong is like that too ... went there last holidays and there are quite a few shops where you can try them to your heart's content. I went to a store in mongkok (hong kong) that had the best customer service and they will take a bunch of headphones that you choose and give you a big table and you can bring your portable amp or what ever and just try them as long as you want. They also had a very wide range to choose from. Will be going at the end of the year again .. will definitely try to get some pictures.

Was this place in Mongkok Jaben by any chance?

If so Melbourne will have our own store by the end of the year, give us a visit sometime! biggrin.gif

I live in Hong Kong :D

You can usually go into any headphone shop and try anything you want without them complaining. You can stay for hours and not buy anything.

it was in a little shopping center called Simcity in monkok.. there's a large audio shop right in the middle of it. Also quite a few other headphone shops there too. And if you're from hong kong you will know the tiny alley way downstairs (near the sport shoe street in mongkok) where it's all just audio gear and headphones. The guy there literally forced me to try everything he had :) .. it was great. That's where I fell in love with headphones and the T5p just blew me away .. then he put in a hk$2000 portable amp and a hk$2000 silver LOD on as well .... and just made everything I've ever listen to from then on sound kinda crappy.

When I die, I want to go there.  Forget heaven!

Reminds me of wandering around Yodobashi in Shinjuku and Akihabara. I would love to go back to Tokyo one day.

Mechakucha na ongaku totemo warui... Yamada Denki! (My version of the incessant in-store jingle they play.)

How common are these headphone shops in Japan?

Eventually, I'll be going on some business trips for work to Japan at Toride, which is northeast of Tokyo. Any idea if I'd find any good headphone shops in/near Toride, or would I have to venture into Tokyo for that?

Where was that Bic Camera store located? Looks bigger than the one close to Shinjuku station. Were you by any chance in Tokyo? The huge Yodobashi in Akihabara is a safe bet for anyone visiting Japan and Tokyo.

I lived in Japan during 2010, and while the Yodobashi in Machida where I lived was relatively small, its headphone selection was 100x bigger than what any Swedish store could offer...

Looking forward to go back in October. I'll probably buy a Sony A856 to my wife then. The next time we go to Japan I am looking to buy a pair of Audio Technica ES10. This time however, it is a little bit out of my budget...

Just ask the staff and they'll let you try it out. Japanese in store service it the best in the world.

He said Japan, not fantasy land.

The power plant and government really showed their "respect" when the people had a crisis.

You must not be happy where you live.
