Please tell me where you plan on ordering them from. I can see my brother wanting a pair too and i'll be curious as to where you get them.

Thank you Dsnuts for introducing them to me as well. I only found them as i read this comparison. So far, they feel kinda tight around the head but once they loosens up, it should be good. Music sounds good and full and bass is definitely there but i don't have much to compare them to. I plan on going to the Apple store one of these days to compare them to whatever is on demo haha. iPod controls work exactly as expected. I own the s4i's and I didn't expect them to be any different.

Hey, I was going to order the WS55's from accessoryjack as well and get em shipped to Canada. Just wanted to ask did you have to pay any duty's or anything when they were delivered? And are they delivered by courier like Canada Post? I ask because I was planning to have them shipped to my university residence but if there are any Charges on Delivery, it's not allowed. Thanks

P.S. Thanks Dsnuts for this in-depth review, really persuaded me too purchase the WS55. I know absolutely nothing about headphone specs or sound quality but was looking to invest in a decent one under $100, and these seem to be the real deal.

They came in by Canada Post and I didn't have to pay for any duties when they were delivered.

Are the ATH-WS55 circumaural or supraaural? Do they clamp less than the K518DJ (the absolute worst ear-crusher that I've ever owned)?

They are supposed to be on ear but they are more like a smaller circumaural so it will depend on your ear size. I have medium sized ears and they fit over my ears and partially on them. No discomfort. They do have a clamp as first but will loosen up with use and some stretching over books. These have softer/ cushier earpads too for more comfort than the AKGs. So about half an inch bigger cup wise than the AKGs.

How does the cup size compare to the HAS600?

JVC got the right design for smaller circumaurals. The HAS600 are oval shape kinda like your ears so my entire ear while snug will fit inside the cups these WS55 are round and width wise is the same size but the tip part of my ears are on the pads and not in them like the HAS600s. But again it isn't uncomfy at all.

Since I don't know much about headphones, the only ones I've really been exposed to have been Monster's or Bose. How would the WS55 compare with beats studios or Bose AE2's?

Thanks

Well I have only tried out them beats at a best buy but was never too impressed with them. Both charge a premium for their headphones because of marketing, hype, brand name. AT will just give the straight sound for your bucks. I think these are what the solos should have been but then again you don't see football players wearing AT headphones. They just don't know I suppose.

Ahh I see, yeah I wasn't to concerned with brand names or anything just wanted to compare based on sound quality. The general view at head-fi seems to be that bose and monster don't have that great sound quality for the premium price, guess the ATH-WS55's are my best bet, thanks for your input.

I have a couple of pairs of headphones that cost me between $30 and $40 that sound better to me than Beats Studios do.

Without the headband pads, WS55s looks like this. In some surprising fashion, I find the headphone more comfortable without the headband pads, as the ear cups seats on your ear more rather than seat outside of your ear.

Interesting mod there, but wouldn't the steel headband exert more pressure on the top of your head without the padding?

Without pads, the clamping force has less pressure. With the overall weight decreased, it feels very light and you couldn't feel the steel band resting in your head since it is so thin.
