SoundMax HD Audio?

Thread Starter

I have an old Dell Dimension E521 from like 2006 that I want to put this sound card http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Sound-Card-Xonar-DG/dp/B0045JHJSS in. I am trying to find out if this sound card is compatible with this computer in place of my integrated sound.

Problem is, when I go to dxdiag and check sound, the name just says SOUNDMAX HD AUDIO. I tried typing in the model number but didn't find anything useful.

Is there another way to find out of I can install this sound card or not? I'm pretty sure this product is discontinued because I can't find any info on the Dell site. I don't have the discs anymore I don't believe so I can't do anything like running the original audio driver.

You Dell has both PCI slots and a PCI-Express slot, so no limitations there, if your not gonna' use the onboard SoundMAX, you'll most likely be able to disable it in the bios menu.
