Ipod Touch 4g sound

Thread Starter

I am considering moving to an ipod touch 4g from my cowon i audio 9 becuae sadly, my iaudio's screen is broken. What's really drawing me in is the HD camera and apps on the touch. So, I own a pair of Klipsch image s4's. How will the sound quality stand up to my old iaudio? Is there anything else I can do to improve the audio quality on the touch?

Buy the Equalizer app, for $2.99 USD. I have both the i9 and the Touch with this app, and they both sound great.

Would this application on iPhone 4 enhance the sound quality. As it is now, it's beyond miserable.

Trust you're talking about the Touch G4 built-in EQ, and I'd agree wholeheartedly.  Apple's idea of EQ presets sucks IMO.

But if you're talking about SQ on a flat setting from the Touch - then I couldn't disagree more.  First I'd like to know what cans / IEM's you're listening to?  Are you using it flat?  From H/P out or via LOD to an amp?

I have both the Touch G4 and iPhone4 - I'm not an Apple fanboi either - I use Linux at home and the reason for the iPhone4 was because the company I worked for switched us over recently.  I switched from a Cowon to the iPod because of the SQ.  IMO (and it is very subjective), I liked the iPod4 better.  The SQ (flat) is great for a portable.  And add in the Equalizer app, and it completes the deal for me.  Don't get me wrong though - the Cowon SQ and the iPod Touch G4 SQ are IMO comparable - and actually pretty close flat.

For the record, I mostly use my iPod4 with my E11 (via LOD) - and either my SE425's, B2, or my MS1i.

Apps and wireless are great.  SQ is good IMO - really good if you use Equalizer or Equ app.  The video camera is OK, but the straight still digital camera quality is quite poor.  It's far better on the iPhone4.  Just thought you needed to be aware.

With the audio going out of LOD, the sound shouldn't be different at all, should it?

Absolutely, you take the internal head phone amp out of the equation. And putting something better can substantially improve sound quality.

Hi, I agree with you that flat, iPod/Touch is not bad at all and has good sonic momentum, but I would never listen to my music at flat levels. I may not have the best tastes in listening to music, but that's how I enjoy the tunes. I need an EQ that I set myself. This renders many of the players of no use to me. Maybe, if iPod had a customizable equalizer, it would have one of the best. I look for the result that suit me only. Potential power and quality doesn't serve my purpose.

I used TF10 with my iPhone. I wasn't happy at all. BUT for honesty's sake, yesterday, after I posted here, I plugged my AH-D 5000 into my iPhone 4 and the sound was not bad at all, only low volume level and narrower stage sound and less instrument separation, but all in all it wasn't bad at all, which surprise me a great deal.

I still need to know if the EQ software from the Apple store will enhance the SQ on my iPhone4 (provided it CAN be used on it).

These days I dream of a portable equalizer not a portable amp.

I'm thinking, maybe this EQ application can turn iPad 2 into one awesome music player. What do you think? If this is true, I wouldn't hesitate to but iPad 2.

Cheers

I use the Equalizer app on both my iPod Touch G4 and iPhone4 - it is really good IMO.  Equ is supposed to be very good also.  Both apps are actively developed, and IMO provide one of the major things the iPods were missing - a decent parametric equalizer.  They are also very cheap - so worth trying - what have you got to lose?

Nothing actually, but I have to re-activate my credit card to buy it from the Apple store :), something I've been trying not to do.

Just buy an iTunes gift card then. I've never plugged my credit card number into iTunes, I just occasionally buy a gift card and redeem it.
