CD Player Suggestions

Hello All,

I am looking about for a new CD player for my stereo setup. My price range is up to $200. I have been looking at the Onkyo C-7030, but am open to any other ideas...basically on the prowl for a budget, entry-level, audiophile product...

Any suggestions?

Have you considered buying used? The original Rega Planet sometimes turns up for $200. A sexy piece of kit with a cast aluminum case and great sound. I've kept one around as a tertiary source for a few years - can't bear to part with it.

A Marantz CD-5001 will also turn up in that range. Great player and it even has a discrete headphone amp built in.

Ooooh. I was looking at the Regas and thing they were a little beyond my reach, but if a Planet came up I would be keen. Where do you usually see them? Audiogon (Lordy that place is expensive), Craigslist, here?

If I remember, I found my Planet here for $275. Though they don't come up often - people tend to hang onto them. I have seen them on Audiogon for $250-$300, though.

Most people at Audiogon will bargain a bit. Don't be afraid to message someone with a lower price. The listed prices are their first offers; many will accept a lower price.
