Guys,
I have a small question. I have a video 5.5 and I would like to upgrade it to iflash.
It is the thiker version in the ipods since it it a 80gb. After loading the iflash can I change the backplate for a thiner? Can I use a 6th gen front and backplate?
Whilst for the front plate you'd need to change the mid frame for a 6th gen. you can buy them relatively cheap.
So, let me see if I got it right.
Tho change backplate and make it thiner I just need a batery and iflash. Correct?
To change frontplate also I need a new frame, batery and iflash.
I might get a complete 6th gen spare kit. Is the 6th gen thin or that it just the 7th?

Yes in order to make it a slim model you just need a slimmer battery.
Yes you can get the kit. Some come with the click wheel also which you won't need. However with the new front plate your click wheel could be sunken as I believe they're thinner.
In the 6th gen the 160gb version is thick model and in the 7th it's slim. So you'd be buying either 80gb for 5th gen or 160gb for 7th gen.

The usual sellers I buy random parts from seem to have discontinued their supply. Anybody have a reputable brand/seller of headphone jack/hold assemblies for 5.5g video?

You can get a Classic mid-frame or just use a Dremel to shave off 6 points off the 5G mid-frame.

Hello,
I'm tried ordering a generic green adapter for the ipod video 5.5g (http://www.soarland.com/ZIF_CE_1.8_Inch_To_CF_Card_Adapter-product-219.html) and I tried to put in a generic UDMA flash to sdxc adapter off ebay
They work in OF and I can transfer files back and forth. There are issues in Rockbox however. "Data error at <address>" mostly predictable on the same file each time (many files). Reflashing and reuploading will cause data error in different files and different addresses.
I tried a few SD cards. A generic 8GB ADATA Class6 seems more stable. The others are Sandisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 UHS-1 and the most instable is the Sandisk Evo+ Class10 UHS-1
Unfortunately, going back to hard disk where I have no issues until I fix it. Any ideas if the problem is in the "green" adapter or the UDMA driver?
I cannot test the green adapter, but the CF->SDXC adapter works well when connected to a USB reader.
I do see slow speeds on data transfer inside the IPOD. Normally with a HD it's 10MB/sec. With the greep zif->cf it's about 4-5 with occasional lock-ups to 0. The CF->SDHC gives 15-16MB/sec with the UHS-1 cards.
I could use a little help. My issue is I need to use Rockbox and I know it's picky. Further the dev build is more picky than the standard 3.13 (seems to work better, but locks up nonetheless).
Anyone knows something about the above combination ? Maybe I got a lemon or is it not supposed to work.
Hi all
I have a 5.5G 80GB with a 256GB SSD mod that slows down alot after browsing a few songs. It takes forever to navigate after the first 5-10 songs. I had this problem with the stock HDD as well. Any tips? Is it maybe the logic board that is defective? Im using Rockbox
Cant find any answers, so im asking here
Thanks

any suggestions for resolving an iPod that won't restore - "unknown error 1416"?
30GB 5G Video with Tarkan (single) and PNY 256GB. also tried with a fresh PNY 64GB and ran into the same problem. both cards format and function normally via macOS.
frustrating because this iPod was working perfectly before i took it apart to test a different one, and now i can't get it back up and running again.

unknown error 1416 has to do with the flex cable to the hard disk i believe, try reseating it. Might even need to replace it.

According to their website you will need a newer model.
Thank You. It did not occur to me that it would be on their website.
I may have to use line out now i guess.

Ok, I traced my issue to a faulty cf->sdhc adapter. It works, but fails proper testing (using H2testw)
Have ordered an iflash solo now (should have done it in the first place).
