if you install a new drive you will need to connect it to itunes and do a restore then install rockbox
Thank you :)
Only the Gen. 5.5 Video (and later) will output digital from the 30 pin dock.
If you have a Gen. 5 it is limited to analog line out.
I'm not sure about any Rockbox compatibility with digital output, as I don't use Rockbox currently.
It does do digital out, I have one and it works with the Wadia 170i dock for instance.
That said, it was the earliest model to do so and if I recall correctly it doesn't operate in Host mode, only Device mode, which is considered inferior and higher in jitter.
Some later MFi DACs such as the HRT iStreamer purposely omitted compatibility with the Gen. 5.5 for that reason.
The iStreamer will lock to the Gen 5.5 as evidenced by it's blinking LED lock light, everything appears normal but there is no sound output.
HRT confirmed they purposely designed the iStreamer to only work with iPods that are Host mode capable.
Another limitation with the 5.5 during digital output is use of the click wheel while docked, that doesn't work, so you have to undock it to use the click wheel or set it up ahead of docking with a playlist you are willing to sit through.
Here is the note from the 170i manual:
Note: Some iPods (iPod nano 1st gen. and iPod video) will only operate in "Extended Interface" mode during digital audio playback or video playback; this means the iPod's click-wheel will be locked and you will need to operate the iPod from the supplied remote control.
The last limitation (specific to the 170i anyway) is the video output is S-Video only, the Component video output won't work.
Yes that was the problem, the CCK is only compatible with the iPad, and certain newer iPhone and iPod Touch models running iOS.
The CCK will not work with any click wheel iPod.
Even if you use a regular 30 pin dock cable, it still may not work if the FiiO DAC is only compatible with iPods operating in Host mode, which doesn't include the Gen. 5.5 Video.
