Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread - Page 155

For people having trouble passing 128GB, have you tried changing settings in Rockbox and using your card on 5.5G? It may be due to how file names are listed/stored in the limited RAM on iPod.

Please go to "Settings - General Settings - System - Limits". Then set all three items to max value and see if your missing albums show up.

I had similar (missing album) problem when I completely filled up my 240GB HDD 5.5G, though the problem did not occur at around 128GB. I cannot remember exactly when but it was probably at around 190GB when albums started to be missing. I fixed the problem by changing the above Rockbox settings.

Note: I have 320 Kbps mp3s instead of flac files, so I have about 3-4 times more files on my 240GB 5.5G than a typical flac only guy. That is a heavier load to the RAM of iPod.

I may be interested in buying your 256GB SD card at $115, if it pass h2testw with a computer. Please feel free to PM me.

Yeah, iPod froze and never went back to normal after the syncing, I don't blame iTunes it must be something in the iPod's official firmware...  Restored the iPod and will install now RockBox.

@zzffnn, thanks for the info. Rock box rocks.

Oftentimes I think these ipod video's are Apple's gifts to those who want to mod these babes in and out. I mean it has one of the best sounding dac's, the most versatile for a clean LO mod & SSD mod, rockboxable, best UI, with the most stylish design.

The only non iDevice I had owned was a Cowen J3, which was very disappointing to my ears with that colored and muddy sounding. Since then, I have been into the diymod thing a lot and can't be more happy with the end results. Now I want to get my hands on one of the so called 'hi-end" daps out there and just to prove how bad (colored) they actually sound compared to my clean LO's from these ipod video's. :)

That's a great question.  It's on my short list after I finish testing incremental loads to determine where the fail-point is. I don't understand why the HDD work but the SDs do not. I don't think it is an iTunes issue, as all of the data actually loads to the card (so I think testing with MediaMonkey is not likely to fix it).  I'm also testing my iTunes database on a different computer with all new loads of my library. That may take several months before I get there, however.

My 256GB CF installed to the ipod video (also rockboxed) has been hiccups free since day 1 and been performing great. It's been fully loaded since the day after it was installed.

I have classic 7g but no mini. However, I never tried that 256GB CF card on the 7g.

I tried to load the Tarkan+Lexar 256gb on a 5, 5.5, 6 and 7 and they all get the same 0 song issue at some point between 35K and 52K songs.

With this Komputerbay CF card and an iFlash iPod CF Adapter (ver.2) you are done.

The Kingspec 128gb SSD does not work in the 5.5. Works great in a classic v6 or v7.

Dminor, what 245gb CF Card are you using in the RB'd v5.5?

Ok, RockBox doesn't seem to be affected by this size/file limitation, I was able to transfer over 128GB and all went good. I guess the difference is that with Rockbox the files are just there sitting there and the OS doesn't access them UNTIL when you look for them using the folder browser function.

Fixed some grammar issues. - Beer related.

Not 245gb, it's a Wellcore 256GB CF.

I bought it from China, here is the info:

I am all good as long as RB works. I am RB for life.

I am reasonably confident a 512GB CF will work with an ipod 5g (5.5g) rockboxed.
