Welcome to board bruinhoo and thanks for the info.

The issue I had with this CF card (128GB Laxar Pro 400x) seems to be due to the compatibility of this card with the Tarkan or another cheap adapter I have. Non of the things I have tried work. I even did a thorough format of the card using the "HPUSBDisk" utility tool. The card is fine as I am able to write/read files using it as a removable drive. It's a quality card as far as I know and I really want to keep it. It works with my camera so I can still make use of it.

Well for the next 128GB I will try the SDXC option. Just wish the 256GB SDXC won't cost that much.

Make sure you consult Tarkan's compatibility chart before buying any cards, can't be too cautious! smily_headphones1.gif

You don't need a wallet if you buy things online. wink_face.gif

Yeah I actually noticed on Tarkan's website it states restore looping prob with the card, which is the exact problem I had. With that said, there are other cards singled out for compatibility issues actually worked for me.

It's not an exact science, the same card that works in one of your iPods can't have issues in another. I find those older iPods quite finicky sometimes.

I think these 5.5g's have been pretty forgiving to us for what we have done to them. I am very thankful for that. :)

So far none of them died on me except the one I killed during my first mod attempt. They were built like tank, good job apple.

Welcome to Headfi, sorry about your credit card statement :)  (doesn't quite have the same ring somehow).

Any chance for this 256GB CF card to work with the ipod video 5g/5.5g? I can get this CF card at a good price with my friend's help. The question is whether it will be compatible.

Maybe ask Tarkan or Rockbox? It is hard to say w/o trying it physically. Make sure you can return it or use it somewhere else, in case if does not work.

A quick google using key words "256GB CF ipod" produced these somewhat relevant pages:

http://www.tarkan.info/20121226/tutorials/ipod-and-sdhc-sdxc-cards   (but note Tarkan's source may or may not be using Rockbox with that 256GB Lexar CF)

IMHO just a bit risky to get a giant piece of memory from a relatively small company.

What a good price and how many can you get? Id be more interested in putting in an iPod Mini.

I agree with everyone, especially with seeteeyou: it's rather risky to put your money from an unknown small company which most likely does not have the weight of bigger flash card vendors. As it was said, if you can't see this card on Tarkan's list (and that is also not a sure thing), I'd say stay away from it but if you want to see, the best is trial and error. As long as it does not cost you an arm and a leg. The 256Gb is more of a unchartered territory being still very expensive, not that many people venture that path.

Good luck if you still go ahead with it and please share your end result.

I think I can get it for under $300 just for order of one piece.

Agree it's a trial and error thing. But I always want a super mod with a super CF too. wink_face.gif

Sure, if I will try this card this thread will be the first place I will report back.

I am offered to try this card at below $300 and allow for a full refund if it doesn't work. I checked with Tarkan and he said the latest CF's have a better chance of working with his adapters.

Then for the sake of science and experiment, go nuts on that!

Too bad Apple did not use the Sata interface in their iPod, you can get 1 TB laptop hard drives for cheap, not that they would necessarily fit the iPod case ;)

Well it's my understanding majority of the CF's in the market are made in China. So I wouldn't worry about the it too much, plus they offer 3 yrs warranty.

Even if the 1 TB fits, then you have no space left for the magic caps.
