D,

That looks awesome, did you do the cap mod yourself?
I did and obviously changed everything except the board. It sounds outstanding, nice thing about it is I have the thin 30gb backplate so looks great.

Try mod one with the Killer film caps, but you need the thick backplate to accommodate the caps. The thin 30gb backplate won't fit. Also if you have not tried a pure silver lod, then you will definitely need to. wink_face.gif

First my caps are so,thin, they fit without mods in the 30gb backplate and I did try the silver, in fact my best combo is silver with 1% gold and the ground as pure copper.

Did you use the slim Elan Silmic II caps for your mod? I have so far tried the Silmic's (electrolytic), Wima films and Kemet films. The Kemet's are clearly superior to the others to my ears. Also it's my understanding the electrolytic capacitors degrade with time but the film caps won't.

I used all of those, like you I prefer the Kemet, I did not like the Silmic II caps. My last find is the supercaps, those are only few millimeters thick and fit in the thin backplate with the cf to zip card.

Here is an example, there are other vendors, and yes they will degrade but it'll take a while and you can always replace them pretty inexpensive.

I am glad you like the Killer caps and that just confirms my ears about the Kemet's.

Let me know if you try the new caps and how those caps sound.

Yeah, I noticed the difference between those two caps, the Kemet is more expensive but worth every penny. I will let you know about the new caps.

What amp and iem's are you pairing with the modded ipod?

BTW, do you know if this 128GB SDXC card is compatible with rockbox?

I am using RSA the intruder, great amp. My iems at the moment is the Shure 535. I'll certainly change later but will spend the money on an audiophile dap.

This card will work with the iPod, I have built a few with it, as long as it is a class 10 card everything will be fine.

I am using that same card in my son's iPod mini and rockbox works great with it.

I look forward to your comparison between your mod with the K caps and whatever the audiophile dap you will be getting. It will be interesting to find out the difference in sound.

I was even thinking about ordering an AK120 from Amazon for audition, and if I find out it's not worth the bucks I'll just return it.

cmarti,

Does that sdxc card plug directly into the ipod mini or do you need an adapter also.
