Well, I ended up ordering another same 64GB CF card from Amazon, except this time it's a used one sold for $43 only. Since it's a fulfilled item by Amazon, I have nothing to worry about. I tried the card bought earlier and it seems working fine, with writing speed around 10MB/sec.

You should use the sdxc to cf adapter route with a cheap 128gb sdxc card a la Tarkan much cheaper . smily_headphones1.gif

What you need : 1 cf to zif adapter runs about 8$, cf to sdxc adaptor about 20$ and a 80$ 128gb sdxc card for a total of 108$.

First, I am not surprised about the mSata power requirements, the mixture of the drive and the converter electronics will suck your power dry out of your battery. The Zif SSD is better but just at the limit and found it to be at par with the standard 30gb hdd power requirement.

In my experience, most of the time the sad face and the inability to install the apple interface on the new flash drive is caused by the poor zif interface ribbon. There are vendors out there that sell those little guys which are better graded than the original. I would go that route. Unfortunately the 256gb cards are still too expensive to be used in those iPod videos unless you got a lot of money to throw around, the two 128gb iPods is still preferable and obviously cheaper (quite a shock wink.gif )

The sdxc may be a little cheaper but not much than the CF card option. However, it's my understanding (not from experience as I have not tried) the CF card will perform faster. Also I try to use less parts if possible to maximize performance speed and minimize power consumption.

Hey for a $43 CF and $3 adapter (non Tarkan), I think this is as low as you can get for a 64GB conversion.

Not just cheaper, but to reduce the risk from losing one you lose everything. Don't forget you always have one battery charged full waiting to serve you.

Well, I ordered another 128GB CF (used but fulfilled by Amazon) for $108 just now. I love Amazon (or the opposite) because you can return/refund no question asked.

It seems this card being sold pretty pricey on ebay.

Hey I am using these CF's to back up my entire music library on ipods.

Yes 46$ is cheaper. If you stay in the 128gb range the sdxc quality card will be cheaper, for example your Lexar 400x is worth 200$ on amazon and the sdxc 149$ so it is cheaper. A converter will cost you an extra 20 for 169$. I can get a very good card for 80$ but for sure for 100$ very good price for 128gb. As far as speed, even Tarkan has done some measurements and with today's cards it's not as much of a problem. For the sdxc, he and I suggest to use class 10 being the speediest. I tried all kinds SSD, cf and sdxc and found them to be all fine and performant as long as you get the 133x and faster.

There is nothing better than a healthy backup schedule to deal with your loosing everything, that is true for computers and mp3's as well they are recording devices that can also fail.

I myself keep two devices which I switch and charge so I won't be without music. The amp on the other hand is a different issue wink.gif

For now I stick to the CF cards. It's simple, affordable, reliable, rockboxable, battery-durable, size-preferable, not-easy breakable. But the problem is my wallet is vulnerable when I see the CF price reasonable. wink_face.gif

I am with you on that, cf cards are proven technology, however I find sdxc cards to be pretty reliable too and seem to be priced lower than cf for large capacity. Price for upgrading to flash technology is an issue but considering how much daps go nowadays and the fact that the video 5th edition has a better sq, it's still pretty affordable. smily_headphones1.gif

I think I've been on headfi too long when I start looking at a near £500 sd card and think "it's only money".

Did you buy one? Money is evil, once it's gone all problems are solved. :)

My latest mod , the U2 Special  ...... with 64GB CF (Maxell) and internal Kemet film caps. That 64GB CF will soon be replaced with a Lexar Professional 128 GB 400x UDMA7.

So far my entire music library has almost been backed up on all my 5.5g's and 7g's. But as you know everything keeps growing, except my wallet. wink_face.gif

Nice looking iPod, I have a similar one with the white faceplate, red click wheel and same backplate, they just look gorgeous don't they.

Thanks. They are probably the best looking portable daps out there, period. With the bypass surgery, I bet it is capable of sounding on par with or better than those ugly high-end ones. wink_face.gif

My next U2 special mod with the Killer caps will have the red click wheel and the white face plate.

I do find them sexy, that one has the bypass surgery and with killer caps. I liked it so much I sold my iPod Classic 7th gen, can't listen to it anymore with the improvement on the 5th gen.

I still have a pair of 7g/160gb's and will keep them for backing up my music library. They don't sound bad (pretty clean) but lacking sound stage and 3d imaging, therefore less musical.

This is close to the best sound system speakers I have heard. Unbelievable weight (impact), reaching and control of the bass yet it sounds extremely clean with amazing separation.
