If that's the case, it's because the seller cranked the price up on the listing when he ran out of inventory.  I've seen this happen a lot.  Saves the seller from having to end, then re-list the same item, thus not incurring any new listing fees.

That battery doesn't fit, you would need the bigger back cover.

I got one of eBay that said it has 900mAh and that battery never lasted more than three hours with the mSATA drive.

I've ordered another 5.5g gen iPod and adapter to test the 256gb mSATA drive I have sitting on my desk with this patch.

And does the iPod's initial memory have any bearing on this? ie iPod with 30 gigs vs iPod with 80 gigs

There are 512GB mSATA drives out there, but I don't know if they're compatible with the iPod's 3.3V requirement. See what's available for sale, then check the manufacturers' websites for the technical specs.

No. However, the iPod's ATA drivers may have an upper limit that is below the official spec. Nobody knows for sure -- probably not even the original engineers, at this point, assuming they care.

Hey guys, Im just starting to research this whole iPod 5th gen modding thing and I had a couple quick questions relating to going the HDD route that I asked in another thread but thought this would be a more appropriate place to ask them.

 

So, if understand this correctly:

 

If I have an Apple iPod Video 5th Gen 30GB it cant support the 240GB Toshiba HDD AND even if it could I would have to get the thicker metal back housing from the 80GB version?

 

So I should sell the 30GB I have and try and find a good condition 60GB 5.5 Gen if I want to get the 240GB HDD for some FLAC and RockBox goodness?

 

Not really interested in going the SSD route yet as the cost of a 256GB mSATA card plus an adapter is more than I want to put into this. The Toshiba 240GB HDD can be had for $80.
