I believe eBay sometimes screw up the listing price.

If that's the case, it's because the seller cranked the price up on the listing when he ran out of inventory.  I've seen this happen a lot.  Saves the seller from having to end, then re-list the same item, thus not incurring any new listing fees.

right now i'm waiting for my ZIF to mSata adapter to arrive,

and i thought i could, when im installing the drive, change the battery aswell!

does anyone know wich ones to get? will the Bigger 850 mah (for the 80GB backcover) one fit inside of my thin "30 GB" Backcover if i put in my mSata adapter? (since its thinner than the original drive, i hope/assume) I thought about something like this http://www.ebay.de/itm/NEW-IPOD-5TH-GEN-5G-60GB-VIDEO-MODEL-HIGH-CAPACITY-BATTERY-MODEL-A1136-616-0232-/200910051872?pt=UK_CE_MP3Access_RL&hash=item2ec72c1a20

and which batteries do have the best quality/capacity/lifetime? is there any certain "Brand" to get?

thanks a whole lot redface.gif

That battery doesn't fit, you would need the bigger back cover.

I read somewhere that this battery is the best you can get:  http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/BIPOD550CL80/

I got one of eBay that said it has 900mAh and that battery never lasted more than three hours with the mSATA drive.

Here is the latest from the RB devs Torne ...

There's an ipodvideo test build of this available here if anyone wants to try: http://whitefang.wolfpuppy.org.uk/temp/rockbox-piotimings.zip - if you try this let me know how it works. On the device I have this is not 100% functional yet; it boots and plays audio but test_disk hangs and USB behaves badly."

If anyone has tried on this, please let us know how it performs. Thanks.

Thanks for the update.

I've ordered another 5.5g gen iPod and adapter to test the 256gb mSATA drive I have sitting on my desk with this patch.

That makes sense.

You can't beat a Rockboxed iPod 5.5g 250gb mSATA. As soon as this is confirmed, I will order a 256gb mSATA drive in no time.

What's the most memory I can shove into an iPod 5.5G via hardware installation?

And does the iPod's initial memory have any bearing on this? ie iPod with 30 gigs vs iPod with 80 gigs

There are 512GB mSATA drives out there, but I don't know if they're compatible with the iPod's 3.3V requirement. See what's available for sale, then check the manufacturers' websites for the technical specs.

No. However, the iPod's ATA drivers may have an upper limit that is below the official spec. Nobody knows for sure -- probably not even the original engineers, at this point, assuming they care.

Hey guys, Im just starting to research this whole iPod 5th gen modding thing and I had a couple quick questions relating to going the HDD route that I asked in another thread but thought this would be a more appropriate place to ask them.

So, if understand this correctly:

If I have an Apple iPod Video 5th Gen 30GB it cant support the 240GB Toshiba HDD AND even if it could I would have to get the thicker metal back housing from the 80GB version?

So I should sell the 30GB I have and try and find a good condition 60GB 5.5 Gen if I want to get the 240GB HDD for some FLAC and RockBox goodness?

Not really interested in going the SSD route yet as the cost of a 256GB mSATA card plus an adapter is more than I want to put into this. The Toshiba 240GB HDD can be had for $80.

You would think with all the extra room we are creating in our iPods by installing smaller drives we could shove a bigger battery in there too.

Indeed. We should look into this more. This mustn't be so complicated. I guess battery calibration for charging management might be an issue, but I'm just conjecturing here, maybe there isn't anything to stop >60hrs continuous playback time?!

OK, finally ordered this 256GB mSATA drive from Amazon and will try it with my two different adapters.
