How does the storage device affect sound quality???

The whole point behind SSD swaps is better/longer battery life, faster access to files, and greater capacity than stock.  Not to mention, being being darn near indestructible (shock proof).

For sound quality improvements, see the DIYmod thread.

The iTunes will detect them and restore it, then right after the restore the ipod keeps rebooting and it won't be detected by iTunes. I first thought there was a problem with the CF card, and the replacement came in and still has the same problem. I am sure the CF card has been properly formatted to FAT32 using the HP USB utility.

However, I also tried the two adapters with other CF cards of 4GB, 8GB and 32GB and they all work. So I am wondering if the 128GB's are too much for the 5.5g/30GB models to handle. Interestingly I have the same 128GB CF with Tarkan and they work on another 5g/60GB model.

Should I try another type of 128GB CF card for the 5.5g/30GB model?

EDIT: Just tried that 128GB CF on a 5.5g/80GB. Still the same problem. The iTunes restores it and nothing happens after that. The ipod just keeps rebooting.

I was able to get 128GB working in my ipod 5.5g/30GB (original) model.  I'm currently using a SD-to-CF adapter with a 128GB SDXC card in it, plugged into the Tarkan board, and then into the iPod.   If it helps, be sure to check under Windows Configuration Utility (I think this is what it is called) to see the partitions on the drive and remove any partitions on the CF or SD card before formatting using the HP USB utility and before putting it into the iPod (of course).  There is a small partition in the front of many of the cards that I think needs to be gone for the Apple restore to work properly.

It was a few weeks back, so I don't quite remember the entire set of steps, but I do remember being pretty fanatic about doing EXACTLY the same thing with the bigger storage solutions as I did with my 32GB CF card, which was where I started.

Thanks for this. Is there a cheaper route I can go that doesn't include an increase in storage capacity? Because I'm getting a 160 gig iPod Classic after all.

Also, can I do this mod + the DIYmod?

32MB is not going to get you very far, you need at least 32GB.

What? I thought that's the most expensive one in terms of $ per MB. :)

I really don't know what's happening and why this 120gb CF doesn't work. The format is pretty simple and all I did was to choose the drive for the CF and formatted it as fat32. Just one partition after the format. The others cf cards (4gb, 8gb, and 32gb) were all formatted this way and all work.
