Break in HE6 cable

There's gap in the clear coating covering the a main strand of the cable to my HE6.  It's starting to oxidize from that point - is there something I can do to stop it?  Deoxit+eletrician's tape?  Heat shrink seems like it will not work as I can't slip it into the woven cable.
