Benchmark DAC 1 still a good buy today? - Page 2

Ordered a Matrix Quattro from Tam Audio last week, so I should be able to do a direct comparison to the DAC1 after I finish my burn in.

Can learn a bit more about it here: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/564028/matrix-quattro-dac-unboxing-and-initial-impressions

Second-hand, I reckon yes. I haven't tried a model with the newer headphone amp though.  As just a DAC, I'd be more inclined to find a second-hand Cambridge 840c for ~$800 if you want a unit that sounds the same regardless of input used.  Vintage Parasound or Assemblage gear for that price would be great if you don't need high-res. And while it doesn't have full measurements, the new Audio-gd NFB-5 has a lower signal-to-noise ratio.

Please keep me posted with your findings.  Pictures of the two together would be great too.
