$400 Amp for He-500

Looking for some suggestions for a near future purchase, I have a $400 budget.   I am not sure if I want a tube or solid state type but I definitely know I do not need any dac features. I am also not interested in any Schiit brand amps. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

shiit lyr all the way!!!!!!!,

i heard the lyr with my he500s at the nj head-fi meet last saturday and was blown away!
planars love the 6w output of the lyr. just make sure you put good tubes in it.
also,can get a used one for less $$$

not gonna lie, i am not fond of them and am scared to use them after reading some reviews, would like to avoid them

another good choice would be HifiMan EF5. 

personally I also like Lyr + HE-500. not sure why you are scared about Lyr. It's going to bite. trust me. :-)

Well... don't screw around with the EF5... try the Lyr, if you want to. 

 

Unless you like the "phat" bass and lower mids... you will not like the current CE / Full Music version of the EF5, which just make the HE-500's "phater." 

 

I don't know whether the Lyr will clear them up enough... I didn't try it, because it doesn't mate will with regular phones... but... others swear it clears the HE-500's up.  Though, I wasn't "a believer" and I returned mine.

The schiit amps are out of the question, after reading up on them I am not going to use them with hi fi sets due to the reports of damage they can cause.  The chances of me using the lyr is 0%

 

I would love to try the Ef5, never had a chance to hear it.

I cannot.  If you search for that info you can get it yourself, but I don't want to cause any trouble and prefer to not link anything that could be used against another company.
