Hmm, you see I might just with that route if it does sound better instead of the sound card for now. The only thing about that right now is that the price on the Xonar ST is starting to flucuate over on Newegg. Quick questions, would you prefer the FiiOs over the Xonar ST? Also, how do the FiiO compare with the Nuforce Icon uDAC2, or am I comparing the wrong type of products? lol.

First off, I believe the Asus Xonar D1 has a headphone amp. I'm guessing Asus does not talk about it much because they would rather have you buy one of their more expensive sound cards.
I would guess the more expensive Xonars have a slightly better headphone amp. like 150 to 300-Ohm?, where as I'm guessing the D1 is rated for 150-Ohm?
I use the Xonar DX, which is the PCI-Expess version of the D1
My Asus Xonar DX has no problem with my DT-770 80-Ohm headphones.
My Xonar DX can even power my DT-770 250-Ohm headphones, not very loudly and maxing out all volume controls.
Currently there is a $20 mail-in rebate this month on the D1
The Sennheiser HD-555 and HD-558 are both 50-Ohms, so should work with any sound card.
Check out the Superlux HD-668B headphone, save a few dollars.
Bestbuy is have a sale on the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

Really? Hmm, if that's true, might as well just go for the Xonar D1. =)
Now on those HD-668Bs, are they around-the-ear or on-the-ear?? I guess my real question is how comfortable are they?

The Superlux HD-668Bs are around the ear. I've worn 8 different headphones in the past year, none of them are any really any better when it comes to comfort over the HD-668Bs.
The HD-668Bs might be slightly more clamping on the sides of the head, but not in a bothersome way, You can figure out ways to widen them, if necessary.
Easiest to wear is the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s, but they are so light on the head, you would think they could easy fall of.
I think I can get away with wearing the Superlux for longer periods over the Beyerdynmics and Creative Aurvana Lives.
The HD-668Bs comes with two switchable cables, 2.5' and 9'.

Would you say the HD-668Bs are as comfortable as the HD 555s? I did a little reading on these cans and they look like they are really good. One review here however said they needed different pads.

Have never worn the HD-555
At this price range, best the headphone can do is fake leather pads,
You can get AKG Velour pads for the Superlux, $40?

Hmm, where could one get pads? And which AKG pads would fit? Also, are the cables they come with good or does one have to replace it with something better?

Velour replacement pads for the AKG K271, K270, K240 should work.
The cables quality are about as good as one can expect for $50 headphones, comes with one 3 foot and one 10 foot cable.
Each cable is male/female (both 1/4 inch stereo jacks), the female end connects to left headphone, to a short male extension.
The headphones package come with a small clip that helps hold together the cable connection, at the headphones
You could not use the clip if you used one of those thick custom shielded cables.
Any 1/4 stereo extension cable could work in a pinch.

Okay, I know this is somewhat of an old thread already, but I just wanna say that I think I am going to go for the M-Audio Studiophile AV40s instead. They are reasonably cheaper (in saying that Best Buy has them and I now have a coupon =] ) than the A2s. I think compared to the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, these would sound better. They also have room down the road to add a subwoofer, so I think I should be happy with this.
Anyways, the question I have is on Amazon, they have the AV 40s and the AV 40 Mk-IIs, what's the difference?

I do not think there is a "MK II" model, no "MK II" listed on M-Audio web site.
So I'm guessing MK II is misprint, or the sellar added it to make his product look more "special" then other sellers.

Actually, there is a MkII model, but it's not yet on M-Audio's site, even though it's already being sold, just like it happens with products from other brands.
From what I've read, the Mk II is cheaper than the regular AV40s, but they have no bass boost, no removable cord, have no external fuse and aren't dual voltage. So basically, for a $20 difference, the normal AV40 are a far better purchase.
EDIT: Forgot to add that the regular AV40s have 20W/ch while the AV40 MkII have 15W/ch.

Makes much more sense then. I'll just go for the AV40s. Thanks guys.
