You might have missed the point there.  My earlier comment was aimed at why (whether worthwhile or not) that is being done for transmitting 1080p. I further went on to try to say that we already possess well beyond arguable means of transmitting audio in the same fashion.  It's just that it's usually not being done well on both fronts (actual headphone design / signal transport-- from the technology used all the way to the implementation you discussed: antennas, transmitter/receiver,a source of power) and has a very small demand, thus little competition for it in the "audiophile" market.  This is keeping costs high and options low.

Theres no point in having a nice amp or DAC if you go with wireless headphones.

How would you fit a audiophile quality amp or DAC into wireless headphones - you'd wind up walking around with a fighter-pilot helmit on your head and still have a 10 minute battery life.

The Sennhieser RS-180 is the best wireless available IMO.

Yea i see, you probably could have it converted to analog and sent in analog radio waves but that would degrade the quality so you would need a nice amp and dac built into the headphones. Still it could easily be done but the headphones would be really heavy and super expensive.

No. If by audiophile you mean DJ headphones that hit so hard, your headphones are about to vibrate off your head....Naw but it would be doable only with a huge honking battery pack and making a good amp small enough to be wireless, isn't realistic. Maybe in the future :)

Uh, what?

Kleer audio is a good enough transport , just the cans that are limiting now.

Hey guys.  I love the Senn HD595, 650s, and 800s.  I did take a gamble (caved) and picked up the HDMI Wireless Sony MDR-DS7500s and found them to be pretty good and they also support DTS HD-MA and Dolby TrueHD.  Nowhere close to Senn wired quality but surprisingly good considering I normally would never recommend Sony for audio.  Hope it helps for those who are too eager like me and need a "hold me over" until Senn or another quality company comes out with an alternative.

As of Feb 2012 I would definitely recommend one of these two options but still I think they are not close to the level of the high-end wired headphones:

Sennheiser RS 220 (DSSS)

Sennheiser RS 220

or Sony MDR-DS7500 (DSSS)

Take care,

George

Hey guys, not sure if this helps but after a ton of research through google translate on the Japanese Sony site (LOL) I think I have confirmed that the Sony MDR-DS7500 accepts a modulation of up to 24bit/192kHz which is a first for a wireless headset (HDMI as well).

Take care,

George
