Good computer audio 2.1 speakers for 200 and under?

Hello, I do not post here very often so sorry about the noobishness to the forum.  I searched around but only found a little of what i was looking for.  I am looking for something obviously under 200 to play game/listen to music with.  I listen to things like Metallica, deadmau5 and some dubstep so bassy bass is something I would like as well (I was thinking about a 2.1 system).  Is there a guide on here that can help me make a good choice or should I just keep asking for help like this?

Thanks for all of your replies of course!

Did you mean like a sound card or a speaker system?

For the sound card, I'd recommend the Asus essence STX. For under 200$ its the best bang for the buck. Before you upgrade your speaker system its probably best to look into a sound card anyways since you're onboard wont do justice.

Wont be able to help you a 2.1 selection =p. glgl.

Oh sorry, I already have the Xonar STX but I do not have good speakers so I am looking for something like that lol.  I am really thinking about a 2.1 system since i dont much care for anything more than stereo and a sub.

Oh well just to share what my bro's sub $190 plans are after i did up an active Edifier 1900TII 2.0 set up for his daughter tongue_smile.gif

Edifier 1900TII $80 free ship
 http://www.dinodirect.com/speaker-multimedia-edifier-r1900tii06.html?ddse=1900TII&utm_source=1900TII

Dayton SUB-80 $99
 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-631

you'd need a 3.5mm/RCA (the ones that came with the 1900TII may be a tad short) and

RCA/RCA cable and it's all good hehe

Thank you!  Does anyone else have an opinion to add?  I literally know nothing about speakers so I would really like it if there were more people giving their opinions on what is best for sub 200   :)

For under $200 I'd say Swan M10, and a low-end dac. Otherwise save up a bit more and get the Swan M50w. I've heard that one personally and its a very nice bang for your buck.

You can look at those models here: http://www.lockwaresystems.com/multimediaspeakers-cat-10.html

A buddy of mine just got these:

http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studiophile-AV-Powered-Speakers/dp/B000MUXJCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312879571&sr=8-2

He raves about them BUT he doesn't have much experience with hi-fi stuff and he got them blindly without testing or much research.

I just got the DSM 3s, theyre out of your price range but if you can stretch your budget to even 400 (for the dsm 1s) I would consider them. Amazing speakers!

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 is a really hard set to beat... especially if you like thumping sounds ; walking basslines in jazz, pounding rock, or electronica.

They're fantastic for nearly everything, considering their price. You'll never find a new set, but you can easily get some on eBay.
