For those who are interested, the enigmatic pkshan's put up the 7.1 version of his Foobar2000 HE project:

Still bare bones, no FLAC or VST support, user-hostile interface, etc., etc... At this point, I'm pretty sure that elimination of things like that, plus a lot else, is an essential part of his design.

I have to say this guy has gone into the dark side. If you read Chinese or maybe use google translate, you will see a post in his blog says that when playing music using foobar, by having only one song in the playlist sounds better than having multiple songs in the playlist, WTF...

I may believe that SSD may sound better than HDD due to lower acces time, but THIS ?

I bet this guy thinks putting solid state gear on a stablelizer widens the sound stage and infinitely improves clarity.  Microdetails we could never hear before oh woe is me.

 

Besides lack of flac support, the minimalist player is nice.  Gets rid of the foobar glutton we dont need.
