pkshan doesn't seem to be posting on this forum anymore, but for those who are interested in his Foobar HE project, the latest 3.7 version is available on his blog:

I've downloaded and installed it, seems to work fine.

It's like the guy is purposefully trying to damage his own credibility.

still no FLAC support I presume? and no way to use VST plugins either?

Nope and nope. One aspect of pkshan's modus operandi seems to be to strip out all sorts of things from the basic foobar.

Well, I fully agree that all players don't sound identical...but he claims that FLAC doesn't sound as good as WAV...I'd say that it'd require a truckload of measurements to back up this kind of placebo ridden impression.

Well, given pkshan's limited English abilities (though his English is certainly better than my Chinese), it's a little hard to tell what his exact position is re FLAC vs. WAV. I *think* what he's saying is that with *his* foobar HE player, FLAC doesn't sound as good as WAV files. Maybe that's an eccentricity with his player that doesn't affect other players. Personally, I wish he'd put up a FLAC version of his so that people could compare it with the WAV version and decide for themselves. I rather suspect that for most people, the difference if any would be so slight as to be unnoticeable.

Going to hawk it again google Stealth Audio player, its updated, supports playlist files.  Memory player.

You can listen to any file that you have a convert for(like SoX for MP3, flac.exe for FLAC.... latest version comes with a codec folder which supports most common file formats, FLAC, WAV< even APE without you having to work.

For those who are interested, pkshan's put up the 4.0 version of his Foobar2000 HE project:

Still bare bones, no FLAC or VST support, user-hostile interface, etc., etc...

And yet, and yet, I think the guy might be on to something with his stripped-down methodology. Maybe it's a zen thing, but I find myself listening with great enjoyment, over long periods of time, to his crazy little player. YMMV, and with the high PITA factor involved, I can certainly understand why someone might not want to bother with it. But I like it enough to put up with the negatives.

Last version plays FLAC, WAV and MP3 too, using flac now, definitely a different sound, not sure if better, need to listen more.

Which SSE version are you using? Because FLAC is definitely not supported in the SSE3 version that I'm using.

For those who are interested, pkshan's put up the 5.0 version of his Foobar2000 HE project:

I'm puzzled by reports from others that they've been able to get FLAC files running on this player: 1) I haven't been able to do it yet, and 2) pkshan doesn't indicate that his player supports FLAC. This from the "readme" text file that comes with the player:

Supported formats:
foobar2000 HE wav     = wav
foobar2000 HE cue wav = cue/wav
foobar2000 HE cd      = cdda
foobar2000 HE mp3     = mp3

Not seeing FLAC in that list. Is there a workaround that I don't know about?
