How much money would it take for a vinyl rig to sound as good as a $500 SACD player?

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

I didn't think of TEAC when I began searching for a dedicated CD player. My initial short list included Denon, Cambridge, Marantz, Onkyo. The Teac intrigued me, so I went for it. It is very...

How much do you have to spend?
It's hard to say, since there are thousands of variables with vinyl. Also, this is likely to touch off a debate about the two formats.
The real reason to get into vinyl is if you're interested in exploring music that never made it to digital. There's a ton of that out there. Also if you enjoy hitting junk stores, thrift shops, garage sales, etc. to find new music you never knew existed.
Do not turn it into a debate over ultimate sound quality. Vinyl, SACD, CD, DVD-A, reel, and 24/96 files all can sound excellent. You can make arguments about which is best, what is and is not audible, and so on. But the only real criteria is, "can it be good enough to enjoy?" The answer is yes for all of them.
If you're interested in new music and discovering things you never knew existed, get a turntable. You won't regret it. But if you're format shopping to find what makes DSoTM or Kind of Blue better, forget it. Only get a turntable if you would enjoy picking through a box at a garage sale and finding something interesting for 25¢ so you can take it home and give it a listen.
My goal has always been to maximize my sources so I can listen to anything I want. I'd love to get a dedicated 78 table. I come across 78s and want to hear what's on them. I don't want a 78 player so I can argue that it outperforms my SACD player.

Thank you, Erik. I have some other questions about how to make a SACD setup.
*Is there an SACD player for around $300 that is acceptable?
*How much money do I need to spend before the differences are insignificant?
*Do I need a DAC that costs more than the SACD player?
*How would I hook a SACD player, a headphone amp, a DAC, and headphones together?
*Is the above ^ gear all I need to get the best sound?
*Would a Stax 2050 II system be a good choice for audiophile SACD listening?
