Fostex HP-P1 Portable Amplifier and DAC for iPod/iPhone (Short REVIEW and Impressions Thread) - Page 85

The only upgrade for the HP-P1 I know of is the A2P TU-06b. I found others are more side-grade in strict quality assessment, but may fit better with your other equipment, especially the flexibility of the HiFi M8.

As to HP-P1 getting a USB input update, I think that depends on Apple primarily.

I haven't been able to try the HiFi M8 with simultaneous headphone and line out functioning, does it go?

I think its more a question of who is the USB master: iDevices seem to work as a client in that configuration while Macs, PCs and Androids seem to work as masters themselves and therefore expect a client device. I don't think its possible to do both with a single USB receiver (besides the fact that the socket in the P1 does not match its specification when working as a client). The mini-USB socket on the backside does not have a receiver at all as far as I know.

Maybe some day... a P2?

That could be, most to the iDevice/USB device have a switch to change the circuit, not auto detect.

HP-P1 output resistance is about 10ohm. Most people don't like that with the wicked impedance of IEM's. ie. get an amp with an output impedance of 1 ohm or lower.

That's what i thought. It is very hard to demo things in this part of the Uk, Just want an alternate sound sig to my dt1350's really. think it is between the es10's and t5p's my only concern with the t5ps is i think they may still need external amp with the hp-p1 to be at their full potential. It's like playing with dice. But life about taking risks.

The es10 pairs very well for me with the hp-p1. Haven't investigated why, but out of all of my hp's, it just matches best.

There you have it, direct experience. Es10 is go on the HP-P1. T5p is great but I would be cautious as it has a particularly unique sound best suited to certain music, not really an all rounder, at least not as much as other headphones.

Great, you guys have made up my mind. What sort of music sings with the t5p just out of interest? I would still love to hear these phones in action one day

Etymotic ER4's. Sound so good, I'm selling my DT1350's (they sound colored by comparison.) Not everyone can stand the fit however.

Anything acoustic/microphone recorded (strings are great, also voice as they have upfront midrange). However I use them for a few other non microphone "enhanced" recordings to.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I thought you sold your HP-P1 a while back, maybe that was someone else. Good to see it with the ADL iD30 is getting some action here too. Classic.

I tried....no interest at the time. But I'm really glad in retrospect that no one bit. Trying different tips with the ER4's make all the difference in the world. And the combo made that long flight to Japan much more bearable.

There is a pair on ebay with red and blue left and rights. Are they the same make and model, Seem very cheaply priced. I too am rocking the Adl 30's from furutech... the only stock cable to my knowledge that is cryogenically treated. Changed my mind about cables making a difference. Am i right in thinking that these are the Etymotic ER-4P There is a pair for sale on ebay but it looks like they have a red side and a blue side??! Seem very cheap.

Those are the older models. Sound the same...the junction is a little larger and blue instead of black. Keep in mind you will need to experiment with tips....they make all the difference. Btw, the cables are fairly microphonic (more so in the older ones.) You must use the shirt clip. Why does everyone put up with a silly looking in ear monitor that has been around so long, almost unchanged? For the sound!
