Best $30 over the ear headphones?

Thread Starter

Just looking for something to go with my new laptop (that sucked up my budget). Probably use for all tasks including gaming. Just want something comfortable since I might throw in some dead earbuds underneath with an in-line mic for a cheap headset instead of my laptop built-in mic.

So far looking at sennheiser hd 201/202, JVC HA-S700, and JVC RX500.

Any help?

Stop your search immediately, there is no need to look further.

Thanks but my budget is REALLY $30 after taxes. The RX700's will cost me close to $40. Ten dollars really makes a difference when you save headphones for last after buying laptop and accessories for it. frown.gif

Are those any good? They look pretty darn good, but doesn't seem anyone has tested them out yet.

Raising another $10 shouldn't kill you, and in terms of full size cans for the price I can't think of anything that comes close to the RX700.

Yeah sorry, I'm not sure, but I just wanted to bring them to your attention.  Not too many options out there for $30...

They ship free from Amazon, and there shouldn't be any tax.  So scrounge for $3 and you're good.

If you can muster up a few dollars more, you should buy the Superlux 668B.  I received mine this past Friday and all I can say is that these headphones will smoke all of your choices above combined.

superlux, or senn hd201/202

Yup, Superlux. May not be a "Giant Killer" as reviewed by many, but definitely a slayer for any cans remotely near its price range.

Some models may be a little too "lifeless" for your taste though. I prefer the HD681F to the HD668B.

Is there any question? Not in my mind. Panasonic htf-600=$30 shipped. I am often amazed at just how good they sound at that price point.
