So far, my main problem with them are they aren't as good as the top Stax paired with BHSE.

I'm not going to sit around and say the HD800 is perfect. There are areas that could be better. At least on a Burson rig I challenge someone to say that the LCD-2 R2 is significantly different than the HD-650. With the LCD-2 R2 the bass goes lower and a little more full. With vocals there is a tad more brightness but overall these two could almost be twins. Except for the LCD-2 r2 being much heavier and much more uncomfortable. Besides the comfort issues do not take what I said about the sound of the LCD-2 r2 as negative, it is actually a very good headphone overall and it does improve on the HD-650. I just did not be live that it was worth $600+ more than the HD-650. Especially with its quality issues and unresponsiveness of Audeze(YMMV). I may give Audeze another chance when their design is more professional and less DIY. Until then I'm sticking with Sennheiser where I can get good support and professional build quality.

I can understand people saying the classic and maybe rev1 is similar to the HD650, but really not the rev2. For reference, I packed the HD650 for return within 5 minutes of listening whereas the rev2 marked the end of my entire headphone journey. Can't be too similar then IMO.
By the way, Audeze has very good CS.
macrog, is there a big sound difference between balanced and unbalanced HD800 ?
You are making me wonderAlghazanth if I somehow got a r1. My serial number says no but my impression of it seems to fit in with what everyone says about the r1.

If you did not listen to them side by side I don't know if you can make that judgement. Maybe your tastes changed since you tried the 650? Either way if you ended up liking the LCD-2 thats all that matters =). From what you are saying it sounds like I must have done a good job for Audeze to not return any of my emails...... Oh well im not going to loose any sleep.

You're right, I never had both at once. I did actually hear the HD650 again a while back, and while it was brief, my thoughts were the same... it's too laid back for me. While the rev1 is technically close in signature, I personally do not consider them in the same league at all. And the rev2 especially.
As for Audeze's responsiveness, I don't know what's up there. I've asked them 5 or 6 questions and have performed 2 warranty transfers, and I got responses the very same day in all but one case, which took two.
Well if Audeze confirms the S/N is that of a rev2, that's that. But yes, I actually talked to someone else whose impressions of the rev2 sounded too much like the rev1 a while back. Strange..
The differences isn´t that great. and there is always one thing reading and one thing listening :)
No this is false. Not missing anything!
Many people say that the K701 are better for classical music and the HD 600 are better for rock. I prefer the AKG701 for all styles of music.
In fact, the stage of HD 800 is big but it sounds to false and distant ...

Calm down!
The HD 600 are outweighed by the long AKG 701. Just do not see it who does not want ...
