Weakest Link?

Thread Starter

I am a student, and therefore have severely limited funds, but I am also a music major and have to do very critical listening, so I can justify some expense. I almost exclusively listen to orchestral music and opera, and occasionally jazz. I like other stuff too, but I want my system optimized for classical.  I like DIY, and built my own CMOY although I don't feel confident about surface mount, as I just failed to build a Bantam DAC.

This is my small budget setup:

Sennheiser HD448

Behringer UCA202

18v CMOY

Source: Foobar2000, FLAC files

So my question is: What is my weakest link? Is there a reasonable alternative that is inexpensive?

Try to find a cheap Sennheiser HD580/600 but other then that, stick with that you got.  It'll take a LOT more money to get an upgrade.

Sadly this is difficult these days, I have been after a 2nd pair of 580s or a pair of 600s for years and used the 580s often go for as much if not more than the original new cost (~$150) and 600s are hard to get under $200 used and are about $290 new - which is close to the street price of 650s
