I am a keen hifi nut who has experimented over time and more recently had great experience with moving my music to a computer source.
Can I share some experience and perhaps you guys too can also feedback your good stuff
I have a Helios Stargate high end cd feeding into a NOS dac that is by Paradesia with tube output to smooth out those mp3s! Some New Zealand beefy amps feeding Magnaplanar 2.5Rs for a huge 3d sound.
So I am running my iTunes on my iMac mainly with Apple Lossless, converting flacs opened with Fluke and ripping cds...I do have some mp3s but at 320kbps...they are ok for casual listening
I got a copy of Amarra - wow what a difference, expensive to buy but it rocks... it manages those lossless files brilliantly and really opens up the music for hifi.

(...there are a few sitez where you can get a sneaky copy for those of you without the funds)
For the mp3s I use SRS Wow for iTunes and that is reall cheap and it does make a difference.
So I have been pretty happy with my system...but you know we all love to tweak......and I really want to try some hi-rez music.
So my recent upgrade:
I thought the best overall upgrade was to get a top end DAC. I had my eye on Audio-gd as there are good reviews, but the top model went out of production/chips hard to get etc. So I was up for some testing.
I have had a brilliant experience with a company called Igloo Audio in Kent. Paul is so enthusiastic and knowledgable and willing to spend lots of time with home demos.
He deserves to do really well with a philosophy of bringing great value products to those who want quality music. He knows which gear is all marketing and which really sounds good!
In the end I got the Weiss202 Dac whic was on a very special offer as a demo model - wow I cant believe how lucky I am.

Hmmm this has changed things....I am not sure I need all the fancy software....just running through a 10m lenth of optical for now and it is stunning. Computer music has made my top end cd player redundant!! I can even use my iPhone or iPad as a fancy remote for iTunes...this rocks
I ordered a quality Firewire cable and waiting for the delivery next week...that should be even better.

Lots of testing for now....
Anyone in the South East wanting a new system, to move into top end sound at reasonable budget needs to speak to Igloo Audio - internet based and home trial at your convenience...this is the way I want to buy.
