Xonar Essence STX hum

Hi all,

I'm hoping to find out what people say with regards to my experience with a brand new Xonar Essence STX:

I've got the Xonar set up with bot speakers and headphones plugged in and swap. I've tried both the Unified drivers and the ASUS drivers; I've turned down all inputs as well.

Now, when I plug my Darkvoice tube amp into the stereo speaker outs and use a pair of headphones (any headphones) and turn up the volume a little, I'm getting a high pitched (10khz?) hum on the line. If I plug the headphones into the Xonar's Headphone amp though, I hear no noise at all...and when using speakers with the Xonar (the same outputs I used for the Darkvoice) I also head no noise.

Is the nature of a tube amp just picking up on a small amount of noise and amplifying it? Do I need to go get a proper DAC before I can use my tube amp with my PC? The tube amp is dead silent itself...other sources such as an MP3 player or a reciever produce no noise.

Thanks!
