[SOLVED] iRiver H340 clipping the bass

My recently acquired iRiver H340 is clipping the bass.

On the heaviest bass, I hear "bzzzt-bzzzt-bzzzt", definitely clipping.

There is nothing wrong with the music files since it does not clip on my computer nor on my audio recorder.

This happens both with and without Rockbox.

So what's wrong?

Thank you very much.

"High output impedance is harmless!" is a registered trademark of iRiver Corporation.

IF the music files are mp3 I'd suggest scanning them with mp3Gain

Also, check your headphones and see if they MIGHT be the culprit.

Highly aware of that software but I am still not sure whether it "alters" the sound "quality" of the files.

Anyway the problem is solved. The headphones (IEMs really) are quite intact. Using a higher-impedance headphone with the H340 I no longer hear bass clipping.

Which is why it is important to have a low output impedance.
